I would like to say thanks to so many people who made this novel
possible. First I would like to thank the woman who encouraged me to
write again. I wrote a story before, got mixed reviews, and like so many
other things that don’t come easily to me, I gave up. It was with gentle
encouragement that I gave writing another shot. Thank you, Jill, for
believing in me. You have no idea what that means to me.
Jill wasn’t all alone in her cheerleading. She had help from a lovely
woman named Nancy. Nancy looked over every chapter, giving
encouragement and kind words along the way. So thank you Nancy;
don’t think that your kindness goes unappreciated.
I also need to thank a woman who allowed me to corrupt her
sensibilities and broaden her views of romance. Jan, I want to thank
you for editing, laughing, and cheering me on all the way. Your support
means a lot to me.
Of course I have to acknowledge my friends and family as without
them, I would not have the stories to write or the strength to share
them. My poor friends have to put up with my airheadedness as I drift
from plot to plot creating characters out of scraps of inspiration that
seem to pop out of nowhere.
But most of all, I give my thanks to my husband. Cameron, you are my
best friend, my lover, and my heart. I thank you for supporting me, my
crazy dream to write stories and for so many things that I can’t even
begin to list here. Please always remember that you are everything to
me and more.

G OD , I hated filling these things out. They were all the same. “Tell
us about yourself; be honest.” I felt like I couldn’t be honest,
because if I were, this line, the hobby line, would be left blank.
Perpetually blank. I could tell you what I used to like to do, before
med school and then the hospital took all of my time. I could tell you
what I would like to do again one day. As for now, I couldn’t
exactly put sleep as a hobby, now could I? That was, in fact, all I did
in my spare time. I slept. Sometimes, I slept for daysor so it
seemed. I also went to the gym, but that was not a hobby, it was a
necessity. Of late, it was the only way to take my mind off work and
the patients I failed. Fuck it. I’d just list my old hobbies and see who
was interested. I listed reading, hiking, and kayaking in my
“hobbies” line.
