Preface
Purpose of the manual
The S7-200 series is a line of micro-programmable logic controllers (Micro PLCs) that can control
a variety of automation applications. Compact design, low cost, and a powerful instruction set
make the S7-200 a perfect solution for controlling small applications. The wide variety of S7-200
models and the Windows-based programming tool give you the flexibility you need to solve your
automation problems.
This manual provides information about installing and programming the S7-200 Micro PLCs and
is designed for engineers, programmers, installers, and electricians who have a general
knowledge of programmable logic controllers.
Required Basic Knowledge
To understand this manual, it is necessary to have a general knowledge of automation and
programmable logic controllers.
Scope of the Manual
This manual is valid for STEP 7--Micro/WIN, version 4.0 and the S7-200 CPU product family. For
a complete list of the S7-200 products and order numbers described in this manual, see
Appendix A.
Changes compared to the previous version
This manual has been revised to include the following.

STEP 7--Micro/WIN, version 4.0, programming software package for the S7-200. New and
improved tools that include:
Operating System: Microsoft Vista is now supported
LAD and FBD Program Editor Improvements: Automatic Symbol Name Completion, Drag
and Drop Symbol Names and New Shortcut Keys for Symbol Names
Communications Setup: If a USB cable is detected the first time STEP 7--Micro/WIN is
started, the USB communication is now automatically selected.
Libraries:
With Modbus RTU Master Libraries you can now create a Modbus RTU network using Port
0 or Port 1. The S7-200 acts as a Master or Slave on a Modbus RTU network.
USS Library for either Port 0 or Port 1 (CPU 22XP and CPU 226) is now available. This
allows you to use the USS communications on Port 1 and reserve Port 0 for PPI
communications or Freeport communications.

Password protection: There is now a level 4 password protection to provide more security
for the intellectual property of the program author.
Text Display Wizard: The Text Display wizard now supports the TD400C device.

The SIMATIC S7-200 series meets the CSA standard.
The cULus logo indicates that the S7-200 has been examined and certified by Underwriters
Laboratories (UL) to standards UL 508 and CSA 22.2 No. 142.

The SIMATIC S7-200 products fulfill the requirements and protection guidelines of the following
EU directives:
- EC Directive 73/23/EEC “Low--voltage directive”
- EC Directive 89/336/EEC “EMC directive”
- EG Directive 94/9/EG “ATEX”
