Bejeweled 2 Deluxe Cheats, Hidden Game Modes, and Tips ====================================================== Overview -------- Bejeweled 2 Deluxe contains several hidden unlockable versions of the original four game modes, all of which require a very skillful player to access (except for "Original Mode" (see below), which is accessed by using your mouse to perform a hidden cheat sequence). This document explains in detail how to unlock all of these hidden game modes, as well as how to use the "Profile.dat" file included in this archive to cheat and automatically unlock them... all without the extreme amount of effort and skill required to unlock the hidden game modes in the usual way. Also included are hidden codes to enable various visual background effects while playing the game, and a simple tip to dramatically increase game performance on a slower PC. Original and Hidden Game Modes ------------------------------ To enter "Original Mode", move your mouse in a clockwise circle over the four mode select buttons on the main menu screen (Classic, Action, Endless, and Puzzle, in that order) without actually clicking on them. You may need to do this several times. Eventually, an Original Mode game will start. Original Mode is the same as the original Bejeweled 1, "Classic Mode" with no Power Gems or Hyper Cubes. "Twilight Mode" is a version of Classic Mode where "gravity" alternates between up and down with every gem that you swap (causing the gems to either drop from the top of the board, or rise up from the bottom of the board). To unlock Twilight Mode, reach level 18 in Classic Mode. "Hyper Mode" is a version of Action Mode where the gameplay is four times faster but with the same speed timer. To unlock Hyper Mode, reach level 8 in Action Mode. "Finity Mode" is a version of Action Mode with the addition of bombs and rocks. To unlock Finity Mode, reach level 280 in Endless Mode. "Cognito Mode" is a cross between Puzzle Mode and Classic Mode. To unlock Cognito Mode, successfully win all 80 levels in Puzzle Mode. Unlocking Hidden Game Modes using Profile.dat --------------------------------------------- I am not that skilled of a player to unlock these hidden game modes! What can I do to play them? Simply copy the "Profile.dat" file included in this archive to your personal user subdirectory created by the game when you first created your user name (i.e. "C:\Program Files\Popcap Games\Bejeweled 2 Deluxe\Users\My User Name". The next time that you play Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, all of the hidden game modes will be accessible, as well as all of the original "Galaxy One" puzzles will already be solved. None of your existing high scores or saved games will be affected in any way when using this method. The only side-effect of using this edited "Profile.dat" file to unlock the hidden game modes is that initially your starting rank will be reset to "New Gemcarver". Also, your "Best Score", "Total Time Played", "Puzzles Solved", "Gems Collected", "Biggest Cascade", "Biggest Combo", "Power Gems Created", and "Hyper Cubes Created" statistics that are displayed at the bottom of the high scores screen will be reset to "0" (similar to when creating a new user name). Visual Background Effects ------------------------- For various visual background effects, enter the following hidden codes while playing any of Bejeweled 2 Deluxe's game modes (enter the code a second time to disable the effect): NOFRAME - Hide gameplay border STARFIELD - Horizontal scrolling stars XMAS - Falling snow Improving Game Performance -------------------------- Lastly, an off-topic tip to improve the performance of the game. As a musician who really enjoys the Bejeweled 2 Deluxe music (as well as all of Skaven's other original music compositions which can be found at http://www.futurecrew.com/skaven on the Internet), I completely detest the idea of the following method, but the game will perform considerably better on a slower PC if the in-game music is completely disabled. Unfortunately, there is no option to disable the music within the game. You can overcome the lack of this option simply by renaming the "BeyondNetwork.mo3" Tracker music file (which can be found in the "C:\Program Files\Popcap Games\Bejeweled 2 Deluxe\Music" subdirectory on your hard drive) to the new backup filename "BeyondNetwork.bak", and the music in the game will effectively be disabled. Bejeweled 2 Deluxe will run fluidly smooth (even on a lowly Pentium 233) when using this method to completely disable the music. If you wish to hear the music again, simply rename the "BeyondNetwork.bak" back to it's original filename of "BeyondNetwork.mo3". As a side note, you also can listen to the music outside of the game using the excellent freeware Tracker music player utility "XMPlay", which can be found at http://www.un4seen.com on the Internet. Legalities ---------- The Bejeweled 2 Deluxe Cheats, Hidden Game Modes, and Tips (BJ2CHEAT.ZIP) may be freely distributed in it's unmodified and unedited form, and in it's original unmodified and unedited ZIP format archive for any non-commercial use.
