Overview

Features
divIDE works on all ZX Spectrum flavours
The transfer speed is up to 218 KB/sec
divIDE works with all ATA-compatible devices (there are no known compatibility issues)
divIDE's MAPRAM feature helps developers and users to test new software without the
need of reflashing their working system in shadow ROM. It can also emulate another 8
KB of ROM if necessary.
divIDE uses full 16 bits of ATA bus
divIDE has 8 KB of shadow flash ROM that hosts operating system core, leaving your
original ZX Spectrum ROM intact. Additional 32 KB of RAM accessible as 8 KB memory
banks are present.
divIDE's auto-mapping feature transparently maps shadow ROM at important entry
points, enabling standard tape emulation, BASIC extensions, NMI menu and
DISCiPLE/+D or BetaDisk emulation.
Available software supports widely used emulator formats (TAP, SNA, Z80, SCR). Just
download your all-time favourite games from the web and play!

Compatibility
The DivIDE is fully compatible with all ZX Spectrum models: 16K, 48K, 48K+, 128K, +2,
+2A, +2B, +3 and some clones.
The DivIDE has also been succesfully tested with the Kempston Mouse Turbo interface and
PC Keyboard interface; visit www.benophetinternet.nl/hobby for more info about these

In the box
Your DivIDE interface is delivered with 512MB Compact Flash card and Compact Flash
card adapter.
You have received either a fixed card adapter that fits right into the IDE socket of the DivIDE
interface, or a card adapter with a ribbon cable that will be connected to the IDE socket of
the DivIDE.
The Compact Flash card is formatted and contains some ZX Spectrum demos for you to try
instantly when you install your DivIDE for the first time, without having to download software
first.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH INSERTING THE COMPACT FLASH ADAPTER INTO THE
DIVIDE, AND WITH INSERTING THE COMPACT FLASH CARD INTO THE ADAPTER!
The adapter has very small pins that are easily damaged when not handled carefully.

Jumper settings
Jumper A on the DivIDE must be closed if using with Spectrum +2A, +2B or +3, otherwise
leave it open.

Getting started
These steps assume that FATWare is installed, the default firmware.
1. Disconnect the power from your ZX Spectrum
2. Connect the DivIDE to your ZX Spectrum carefully
3. Connect the Compact Flash card adapter to the IDE socket of your DivIDE
4. Insert the Compact Flash card carefully into the card adapter
5. Power on your ZX Spectrum
6. Press the NMI button on the controller; a simple file selector appears.
7. Use the cursor keys or CAPS SHIFT+6, CAPS SHIFT+7 to select a file* and press
ENTER.
8. Z80 and SNA files are executed automatically.
9. If you selected a TAP file, use LOAD "" to load the file in just the very same way as from
tape.
USR 0 Mode
When you have the DivIDE connected to a 128K ZX Spectrum model (128K+, +2, +2A, +2B
or +3), many 128K games and utilities need the so-called ‘USR 0 mode’.
The 128K Basic causes many 128K games and utilities to crash when loading.
In this USR 0 mode all 128K functions like 3-channel audio and 128K memory are present,
but not the 128K Basic; you’ll get the 48K Basic instead.
To get to USR 0 mode from 128K Basic, enter: USR 0
(This is not the same as entering the ‘SPECTRUM’ command, which disabled 128K ram
paging).
Getting software on the Compact Flash card
Visit www.worldofspectrum.org to download games and other sofware that can be use on
your DivIDE interface!*
Follow these steps to get them working on your DivIDE:
1. Disconnect the power from your ZX Spectrum
2. Extract the Compact Flash card from the card adapter on the DivIDE
3. Connect your Compact Flash card to a card reader on your PC or laptop
4. Copy your downloaded files to the Compact Flash card
5. Disconnect the CF card from your PC
6. Follow the steps above under ‘getting started’ to load the files on your ZX Spectrum
* The DivIDE supports TAP, SCR, Z80 and SNA files.
Firmware versions

The info there will be update when there is new information about the DivIDE interface.
FATware (standard installed firmware)
FATware natively supports up to 8 standard FAT-16
partitions (including long file names). It loads TAP, SNA,
Z80, SCR and interlaced SCR files. With FATware you don't
need any low-level disk utilities to get up and running - just
unplug your disk or CompactFlash from your PC and plug it
to your divIDE. FATware is readonly.

DEMFIR
DEMFIR (DTP's Emulator Files Runner) handles ISO 9660
file system found on CD-ROMs. You can use either CDs or
unfragmented ISO images stored on a disk. DEMFIR
supports TAP, SNA, Z80, MFC and SCR files. You can
download these from numerous software archives such as
World of Spectrum. As it is possible to fit thousands of
games to a single CD, DEMFIR can turn your Speccy into
huge retro-gaming console. NOTE: DEMFIR is read only.

MDOS3
MDOS3 is a divIDE enhancement of MDOS/MDOS2
systems which were used in D40/D80 disk units. MDOS3 is
a full-featured OS working with raw diskette images and
supporting up to 4 virtual drives. One of its divIDE-specific
add-ons is a tape emulator. With huge D40/D80 software
base available this is worth a try, especially if you're a
former Didaktik user.
